The Sales Funnel - What is it?

A marketing funnel doesn't necessarily mean a funnel. In this case using funnel is to visual and define the process of selling from beginning to its end. It is a wide opening for customers who are called "Unqualified Prospects" at its top and a smaller opening for sales conversion at the lower end. This is a great comparison.

At the top or entrance to the funnel are those people we might consider to be "unqualified prospects" These are people who could need your services or products however, you've never contacted them before. At the end of the funnel, several offers and sales actions later, you've gotten folks who have purchased the product or service you offer and have made purchases as well.

Another reason why a lead-generation funnel idea is so efficient is that it allows you monitor potential customers at various levels of the sales process. With the sales funnel, by figuring out the quantity of qualified prospects at each point of the process, it's possible to predict the amount of prospective customers who'll eventually turn into actual customers.

A sales funnel will allow you to determine exactly how and where your sales process is failing or working, or if your campaign isn't attracting enough potential customers somewhere within the process. This information helps you choose where to put your effort to make sure that sales are at the correct level and that you are meeting your the marketing objectives. It is used to monitor and control the sales process of customers.

The Front - End or the Sales Funnel Top

The top of your sales funnel should be the most active part of your process. This area requires consistent testing. There is no limit of front-end ideas. Your imagination and your resources are the only limitations.

The primary goal of the front-end will be to draw potential customers and turn to buyers later in the selling process.

If a potential customer opts in or subscribes to something you offer, they are "qualified". This is when the prospective customer, or "Unqualified Prospect", becomes an "qualified lead. They've taken action that shows that they may be interested in the product or service you offer.

Your front-end must be able drive specific traffic to your website or blog. Article marketing, PPC ads, social media (Google+ Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) banners, and blogging are the most effective methods and resources to do this.

There are a variety of ways to "qualify" one of them, the "Unqualified prospect". One of the most effective is the use of a squeeze page that allows you to provide something valuable relevant to your service or product that folks can get at no cost or at a drastically reduced price in exchange for their name and email. The products offered vary from newsletters, video, e-mail courses, eBooks, related reports and more.

We can realize that the front end of the sales funnel is the place where people are drawn into your sale funnel. What about the back end?

The Bottom of the Funnel or the Back-End

The bottom, or back end of the funnel is where the majority of sales and profits occur. You will usually find the higher-priced products there. They all belong to the same subject however in a different format such as video, audio or live interaction.

The primary difference between the front-end and back-end is the kind of client, as well as the cost of the service or product that are offered.

Even though it is true that a very small percentage of people will be able to enter your front-end however, just 1-2% of them will actually be able to make it into your back-end. Since a small portion of people invest more, that's fine.

You see, that while front end products and services can cost under $100, back-end items and services are typically priced in the 100s or 1000's. This makes the top of the sales funnel, or the back-end, the primary source for revenue for your Internet business. It is also the most predictable and secure area of the sales process.

Like I said the sales funnel can be as easy or complicated as your creativity or resources allow.
